In my previous post on the Top New Features of ArchiCAD 18 I listed IFC Mapping as my top feature. This feature enables users to manipulate the data that is native in ArchiCAD and use it in an almost an infinite number ways to use internally in ArchiCAD as part of data representation or to export customized data to OPENBIM IFC.

In my Last Post I discussed my Top 5 Features in ArchiCAD 18. One of the features that need further review in detail is the Revision Tool. It has been one of the most requested features by users for a number of years and it is finally here in ArchiCAD 18. It is a tool as I have previously stated that requires time to trial to fully understand. I recommend that you take the time to investigate this feature and make sure you include it in your workflows, as you will benefit from timesaving and quality control you achieve through using it.

The other week I was fortunate enough to be invited to present at Graphisoft Australia’s ArchiCAD 18 Launch Conference in Brisbane. I had the opportunity to share my presentation from Graphisoft’s KCC 2014 Conference in Budapest, with local users and share my thoughts on the New Features in ArchiCAD 18 that I believed would benefit Fulton Trotter Architects the most. Below is my Top 5 Feature list from ArchiCAD 18. I have included a description on how these features will benefit our current workflows and generate new workflows. You will note that I haven’t included the Rendering Tool in my Top 5. There is a reason for this as it is very capable and will enable use to create some really impressive renders straight from ArchiCAD but as a feature it will not add significantly to productivity as Renders can be outsourced.

Delivering Quality BIM

BIM is one of the biggest catch phrases in the Construction Industry in Australia with many players claiming to have BIM Capabilities. Over the last couple of months I have been thinking quite intensively about this. There are organisations that have created systems to determine BIM Capability, but some of the areas in their rating system I don’t believe really are a good measure of your BIM capability. How is a capability to set up IT infrastructure a rated item? I am asking myself how do you confirm the quality of your BIM deliverables? And how can I set up systems that enable Fulton Trotter to meet current and future BIM deliverables.

It is just about that time of year when ArchiCAD users get their hands on the latest release of ArchiCAD. The cries can be heard already "where is the Stair Tool?" etc. I used to be one of these people that would focus on what Graphisoft wasn't doing and missing out on the opportunities that their development brought with the new release. Yes there are things that need attention in ArchiCAD and as a client that pays for the software we should be getting software that enables us to meet our deliverables, but I hope by the end of this post I might bring you closer to my way of thinking.

This is my second Guest Blog post over on Shoegnome from February this year

In my last post I talked about using Building Materials to check the level of development and resolution in your model. This post will continue to look at another concept that forms part of Fulton Trotter Architects ArchiCAD 17 template that can be adapted and used in your practice.

ArchiCAD

This is a copy of my first Guest Blog post over on Shoegnome from January this year.

The introduction of Building Materials in ArchiCAD 17 is a significant shift forward in providing opportunities for building on the “Information” component of BIM. If you use Building Materials well you will find that due to the number of embedded attributes they can act as favourites for you.
